Year of Manufacture *: 2006
2006 Zafira B No fault codes in any module.
Symptom. Very occasionally the radio will fail to work properly. When this happens there is a loud buzz from the front right door tweeter. The buzz is possibly from the main speaker as well but I don’t think so. If either the left rear door or the tailgate is opened the fault fixes itself.
Customer drove it in here last week and the symptom happened. Before I had a chance to even think about it he opened the tailgate and it fixed itself. It is in today to be looked at and it will not play up. When I heard the buzz it was distinctly from the tweeter and I think the main door speaker was quiet. It was definitely only from the front right door. Customer says that opening the door or tailgate fixes it every time.
Looking at the diagram, the pos and neg is shared for the tweeter and main speaker (no amp) so if the fault was an output from the radio I think it should effect both, but there must be a crossover built into the door and maybe that would choke the lower freq? I have no idea at this stage how the Radio would react to shorts in other channels (door wiring maybe) but I doubt it would cause this.
I was thinking of the wiring because I have seen them give CL problems before for this reason but I am not sure the symptoms could be caused by this. I didn't strip to check but gave all the door wiring a good wiggle test.
I gave the customer his options and he has decided to drive on until he can bring me the car with the fault present.
I am probably over thinking what will transpire to be a faulty Radio.
