Vauxhall Astra 1998 - Intermittent no start #

Year of Manufacture *: 1998

Hi everyone

This astra has an intermittent starting fault. the customer says when he turns the ignition on the dashboard lights come on but engine wont crank and starter motor does't click
does anybody know if the starter get it's signal
directly from the ignition switch or is it going through a relay and where this relay is?

Looking at wiring diagram it comes straight from ignition switch (Black/Red wire).

thanks mick this makes easier for me to diagnose it when it does it again
do you know if these cars have a problem with the ignition switch?

Had problems with the switch sticking and burning the starter motor out, not seen one on fire yet Mark..

The customers first coment is normally " the other day I saw a whisp of smoke from the dash/column area"

If that pointer was not acted on the next time you ssaw the vehicle used to be on the back of a truck
