Ford Galaxy 1.9TDDi ASZ 2005 - Engine fire, dual mass flywheel fault #

( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: ASZ

Dont know if anybody else has had this. The vehicle was brought in to us after having had an engine fire, which turns out to be the dual mass flywheel.
Cant strip it out yet as part of an insurance claim, but has melted bell housing/gearbox casing.
No signs of oil or fuel leaks, insurance company are happy that dmf has broken up and caught fire. Customer said vehicle driving normally, then felt like a misfire, stopped and found flames coming from bottom of bell housing.
Anybody else seen this.

Thanks for that info Tony.
Just spoke to a mate who works at a Ford dealer, he said there was a recall on Dmf's, although he did'nt know for what reason, but this vehicle was not part of the recall.
At least it answers my question. Andy

Just had authorisation from the insurance company to repair, interestingly they will pay for everything except the dmf and clutch kit.They obvously wont pay for the dmf as it was a mechanical failure, but surely the clutch is consequential damage?
