Vauxhall Astra 1.8 2001 - Faulty ECU, reprogramming with Tech2 - Fixed #

Posted by Simon Forsey on November 6, 2012, 7:15 am

Year of Manufacture *: 2001
( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 1.8

Hi

I apologies now if this is in the wrong place.

We have this Astra which has a faulty ECU.

We have a Tech2 and wish to reprogram a new one.

Can someone talk me through the correct options and methods to re code it using GM info tech.

I have downloaded the ECU info into the Tech2 using the SPS option, now I need to get security access and an a little unsure and worried about doing it right the firt time.Do I just need Tech2win or another option?

Regards

Simon

I thought yuu just run the security access program which pairs you tech 2 so to speak then you can carryout the sps function.

Never done an SRS module but i would guess you need to set options such as whats fitted to the car (side airbags, passenger airbag etc) but if you write it all down from the old unit if possible then it should be easier.

I've used tech 2 to sps new engine ecu's and from what i remember it mostly instructs you what to do.

thanks

I've never used infotech, you might be better off getting a copy of GlobalTIS, then it's just a matter of selecting security access from the home page.
I guess infotech will be the same if you have the permissions.

I don't think you will be able without the "enhanced" access on Infotech

Either Global Tis as said or VauxCom

Sorry i didn't read the post correctly. Never realised you were using GM Infotec.

Isn't that a pay per use system where you can either pay per hour or yearly if needed.

I was looking on theere website the other day with a mechanic from a dealer, doesn't look to expensive for the SPS files from what we could make out.

Something like €20 per hour for the SPS files and €400 for the MDI software per year which i think is aceptable.

Hi

Am i right in thinking that all I need is the sub for the Tech2Win (Tech2 Software Emulator for PC)?

Hi

We fitted the new engine electronic control unit and using the TIS2web we managed to reprogram it.

However, we now have to program the variant options. The Tech2 tells us we need TIS permission. I have been all around the website and the Tech2 but can't find this option!

Is it possible that the 4 didget security code will unlock this option on the scan tool?

This is the first time doing one of these and am unsure what to do next.

Simon

Hi Simon

The 4 digit code will not allow to to program the communication buses or variant code. Tech 2 has to be authorised to do this via Gtis or Tis2000. I think, as Mark said to do this on Tech2web you need enhanced access. Some aftermarket tools claim they can do this but I normally use Tech 2 so cant say if the claims are correct. (Vaux-com certainly can).

Sorry if I seem to be asking obvious questions.

Which subscription gives me access to the enhanced options?

Just had a look on Tech2web and can't tell what one I need. I have already been on the first 8 euro option but didn't see it, but I may have missed it seeing I didn't know what I was looking for!

Its not just a case of paying money. Its a case of proving to GME that you are a bonifide trader.

You will need a DUNS number to start with.

Find someone with Vaux Com if Tech2 tells you it needs TIS permission, it will be quicker and less painful.

Hi

Your comments are noted Mark, but I really would like to crack this one so we can deal with these in the future.

I now have my DUNS number and have submitted it to GME, once accepted, what happens next?

I assume that I will have to sink the Tech2 with the website. Is that it then? Or is there more hoops to jump through?

Once I have got to the end I will post a step by step explanation on how this process is carried out.

Many thanks

Simon

Honorable and worth praise, but if history is anything to go by, your vehicle would have oxidized back to its raw state by the time you get your "approval" from GME.

They are not known for their speed in granting it.

If it is a customers vehicle then get it programmed and aligned with one of the tools that have already been mentioned and then play / learn with your Tech 2 when the Approval comes through.

Hi

Sorry its taken a while to get back. Very busy over here. I jumped through all the hoops and we have a running car. And the very next day I have a Vectra that required an new engine ECU, so I was up to speed.

Many thanks for all your help.

Simon
