Self adjusting clutches - Any info? #

Year of Manufacture *: 2005

Hello everyone,

I have been fitting clutches for years now and know about the DMF,s etc from when they came out first but the self adjusting clutch (sac) has somehow eluded me. I have fitted a few now without actually being aware they are sac type.

However i have never had any problems after fitting them. I believe i should have been using a special tool to fit these and possibly reset them when they are fitted?? Is this true??

I have, as i believe common sense and good practise leads you to do, always torqued the bolts gradually a little on all in turn so it pushes the springs back evenly. I believe the tool is designed to eliminate bending the plates.

In a nutshell what i would like to know is have how does everyone else do it out there?

Im sure i will get some good responses and thank you all in advance.

Phone LUK and ask for technicial, they will send you all sorts of info on the system.

Hi

After fitting my first self adjusting clutch without realising and without a special tool i contacted LUK technical for advice and their response was that if securing bolts were tightened evenly i should'nt have any problems.Vehicle did many thousands of miles with no problems.

Alwyn im glad im not the only one to have fitted them without knowing its a sac type. And pleased to know it should be fine anyway. I will get in touch with LUK and get the info.

The ones we have fitted have come pre set . As i understand , you need the tool if you are dismantling and reusing a SAC.

As Vince says, it only becomes an issue when the clutch is set and then released. I have the kit but only have had to use it a couple of times in the last year or so but without it you wont get one back on without the clutch pedal hitting you in the chin
