Jaguar S-Type Petrol 2001 - Can anybody program security in engine ECU for me? - Fixed #

Hi All,
I diagnosed ECU failure on this car, sent the unit to two repairers (Actronics and Avilec)neither could repair, Atp also could not help. Customer has supplied used ECU which talks on diagnostics but obviously now requires security programming. Is there anyone in UKAT who can either come to me and program it(Edenbridge, Kent/Surrey/Sussex border)or is fairly close so I can trailer it over?
I am surprised the ECU is unrepairable as the 5V rail is down at about 2V so it appears like it is a power supply problem.

Do you have 5 volts with the new (used) ECU fitted ? or is that gettine pulled down ?

Hi Kev,
Old ECU had a low 5v rail on or off the car (bench tested unit to be sure it wasn't a car problem, although it is still possible it was originally caused by the vehicle) the old ECU is definitely toast.
The new ECU comms with diagnostics and gives 3 codes
P1000 more driving needed.
P1260 Theft detected engine disabled (Multiscan description) Vehcile immobilised (Autodata description)
P1586 Electronic throttle to PCM comms error
Wasn't intending to worry about the 1586 code until the ECU security was programmed and I still had it!
Customer alleges that he went into a big pothole and the car immediately stopped, not sure if this is Gospel or whether he wanted to try and make it his insurer's problem!

Hi Shaun
This is a very easy job with Autologic,you can carry out a security realign when you've fitted a used ecu.We're in Derby so not much use to you but give Autologic a call and they should tell you the nearest Autologic Jaguar user.

Thanks for that, I have just been put in touch with a man who has IDS for Jaguar, if that doesn't pan out I will call Autologic.

The chap with IDS turned up and successfully aligned all the security for me and reflashed the PCM with the latest software.
Unfortunately the P1586 code returns immediately, as a result the engine starts up and immediately is shut down again. The throttle butterfly was sticking and I cleaned it but the code remains. My concern is that it only needs re-adapting but he felt it didn't need it and anyway he'd followed the procedure for the update which would have covered it anyway.
The car has stood for almost a year so I will check and clean the throttle body connectors and wiring etc. and check the TPS outputs.
Can anyone shed any more light on this code for me?

P1586 - TACM to PCM communications (SCP) failure
SCP circuit failure - U code flagged
TACM failure

TACM = Throttle Actuator Control Module
SCP = Standard Corporate Protocol (Network)

Update so far..
Have found that the PCM is not driving the TACM power relay. Fitted a temporary link in place of the relay, the Throttle actuator powered up and the vehicle could be driven.
So now its PCM out again (glad I didn't put everything back straight away), check I haven't bent any pins on the PCM (I hate connectors with big bolts in the middle, no feel to them) and check wiring continuity, going to be a bummer if the PCM is faulty, another programming charge.

The PCM supplied by the customer was a slightly earlier revision (111A instead of 111B). Checking the diagram for the earlier car I found that the throttle body is fed from the ignition relay on this version and not a seperate relay.
I didn't realise the customer was sourcing his own part.If I had known I would have given him the part number to buy. So rather than order by part number he must have ordered "ECU for 2001 S-type" or similar on fleabay.
I wired the throttle body power supply to drawing for the earlier module and all works well.
