Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi 2008 - Instrument panel battery drain - Fixed #

Hi

After the car is locked, for 30 minutes there is still 300mA battery drain and the centre info display in the instrument cluster is still illuminated, after 42 minutes the display goes out and the drain instantly drops to an acceptable 5 to 10 mA.
Is it normal for the instrument panel to be powered up this long?

IDS is telling me there are calibration updates for PCM and Instrument Cluster but does not say what they address, I'll update them tomorrow and see what happens.

I think you will find most of the late Ford models with the "menu/info "screen have this feature ,so yes,it is normal.On some cars it seems to stay on longer than others,not sure if this is a programme issue.hth

Hi Martin

Check your email. I Don't know if that's anything to do with your fault, but may be the reason for the software update on the cluster.

There is a tsb on the steering column micro switch but i think its to old for your car.

If you open an account with etis and look up the car the tsb are free to look up. Unfortunately they only let you see the ones they want you to see.

Hi, thanks for the info Ian, much appreciated.
I did check on eTIS but nothing related to this fault. As an independant garage it seems we do not have access to the TSB's and I raised this with them and they said that only dealers have access, fortunately I get on well with local dealer and they fax me the relevant TSB if I can supply the number.
I will try to persuade customer to have updates.
Update on fault; I left the car locked overnight and checked the drain this morning, it was 80mA.
I seem to have an intermittent drain because the drain the previous day was 10mA or less.
Traced it to hands free phone kit which I have now disconnected.
