Rover 45 1.6 2002 - Head removed, cylinder liners mover on turning crank #

On head gasket replacement after a cam belt jump the liners have moved up on turning the crank! Can they just be pushed down and the job finished or have we just doubled our workload!! ? Thanks

never had anything to do with the liners but i'd think if they've been pushed up then your almost certain to have a leak as to be fair it doesn't take much on Rover's to cause a leak or head gasket failure.

Can't you push them back down and fill up water jacket with water and see if it holds water.

I know its not under any pressure but i'd think they'd leak anyway.

I've took them out of a scrap engine but can't remember how the seal.

Thanks for reply but customer has decided not pursue this job now, probably for the best there was severe damahe to valves.

Also on this engine if the crankshaft is turned with the head off, the main bearings can rotate in the journals

The journals are all part of a lower crankcase assembly, if you replace the bearings you have to work out what colour code bearings to fit where from code numbers on the crankcases. You don't necessarily have the same bearing at the top half and bottom half of the same bearing either.
On these K series engines you make sure you NEVER rotate the crank without the head being torqued down.
Probably just as well the customer has pulled the plug

- it has saved you a massive headache.
