Ethanol fuel and the potential harm does not seem to be a topic yet on this forum, although there is much discussion about the subject in classic car forums, the opinion being in an unsealed enviroment (vented tank) problems with phase seperation may occur, this wll be amplified if fuel lays in the tank unused for any legnth of time.
We have already had to deal with this problem in an Mgb and an older Merc, also a Bmw. The fixes for these cars will become matters for regular attention to minimise the problem.
A much greater problem may exist for petrol stations, some being much older, our own having thirty year old steel tanks, with a vent to atmosphere, with a low fuel volume turnover.
Monitoring water levels in the tanks is suggested by our fuel supplier, who are currently warning us of a change to add ethanol.
Yet if phase seperation occurs inside my storage vessel I imagine serious damage may be caused in a modern car or a classic.
Has anyone any thoughts on this subject?
