Vauxhall Astra 1.7 CDTi Z17DHT 2007 - Head gasket replaced, but still leaking #
Posted by Andy Mason on January 24, 2012, 3:46 pm
Year of Manufacture *: 2007 ( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 1.7 Cdti Z17DTH
We have inherited this job from another garage. The head gasket has been done, the head was skimmed and hot pressure crack tested. Apparently it has pressurised and lost water ever since. We have done a head gasket test and it shows that it is leaking. there is no water in the oil, we have blanked off the egr valve coolant pipes and it still pressurises. before ripping the head off, are we missing anything or has anybody heard of any other faults.the vehicle had previously been driven and overheated with a leaking radiator for about 6 months, so it has got hot. On one of these type of engines in the astra. There is a poss fault on the bore cracking.
We have not had one ourselves but have been warned to test for it when we have removed the head on the one head gasket we have done.
With the cyl head and the pistons level fill the water jacket with water and leave overnight. In the morning if you have a line of rust in the bore you have got a problem.
We were told there is also a uv dye for testing them.
