Year of Manufacture *: 2004
Hi
Fitted a new battery 1yr ago. 6 months later battery went flat again.tested many things nothing showed up, blamed the new battery and fitted another. 6 months later (today) battery flat again.
There seems to be an intermittent battery drain of variable ma but is so intermittent it is impossible to trace ie drain disapears as soon as you look at car.
Car seems to have a drain of 40 ma dropping to less then 8 ma after a minute which is OK, but ocasionally there is a drain of 600 ma which suddenly disapears which may be cause of problem overnight.......any ideas appreciated

Car is back again after 3 months....went to car before jump starting...no battery drain...batttery is down to 5v so there has been a drain at some point in the last 3 days since it was used....back to workshop...all obvious checks done ...no batt drain,no faults.
Does anyone have any ideas or past experiences??
Re: bmw mini battery goes flat if not used for a couple of days
How much mileage is the car doing. How long is each journey. ? Does it ever get a decent run to charge the battery back up. ??
I Had a Customer that brought a car back for me to swap the battery under warranty ( About a year old ) as his Mechanic mate told him it was faulty because it wouldn't start his P100 Pickup.
I looked under the bonnet to see a brand new shiney Diesel filter housing, So I asked him Why it had a new housing fitted, If it was bad a starting or had running problems. ?? He Denied any starting problems and said it was changed because he looks after his vehicles. ??? YEAH OK.
I then said How much Mileage do you do. ?? He said Well, I Hardly use the pickup and when i do, I don't go very far. ??? I said Well, in that case, How do you expect to put the power back into the battery that you take out starting it. ?? And over a few month period it will go flat, So you have 2 choices, Either Charge the battery or Give it a good run once a week.
He Couldn't or didn't want to understand As he knew his Mechanic Mate knew more about the job than we did.
We Charged and tested his battery in every way possible FOC, we loaned him a battery for a week FOC. We Tested his vehicle out FOC and the Idiot still went away in a Huff because He knew his battery was faulty.
It had just got into a poor state due to lack of charging and being stood about and a couple of days on a trickle charger brought it back to full power, We then left it stood for the best part of a week and then tested it again.
The Battery was perfect and there was nothing wrong with the car in that case.
