Nissan Micra 1.0 2001 - Will not rev over 1500 rpm, code P0171 - Fixed #

( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 1 litre

Hi

Car will start fine but wont rev over 1500 rpm. Read P0171 which is front lambda sensor but not the cause. Sounds definetly like lack of fuel.

Changed fuel filter and still the same. Think it might be fuel pump,have no way of checking fuel pressure. When i spray easystart into carb pot it revs out. Do the pumps give trouble or has anyone came across similar problem?

Hi Liam,

Throttle body is a common problem on these. The Air Mass Meter which is incorporated in the throttle body is usually the cause.

Liam, the air mass element is "cleanable" on this, try very gently spraying the element with carb cleaner. I usually remove the throttle body to do this, I have never tried doing it with the engine running, not advised, I think the chill of the spray hitting the hot element may break it! Regards, Gwyn

Thanks for help lads

I tried cleaning air flow meter to no avail. I purchased a new one for 70 euro and problem solved. Not the 1st time diagnosis saying oxygen sensor turned out to be air flow meter

Hi Liam, for future referance P0171 is not a lambda sensor fault code it relates to fuel mixture (too lean).

Thanks a lot sean.Will keep it in mind for future references.Hard to keep up with all modern electronics when coming from an era when most problems were mechanical.Will have to adapt to the times we are in to keep afloat.

Evening Liam,

Further to what Sean has said, it would be well worth remembering that even if a fault code was flagged for a component, doesn't mean to say that the component is faulty. Proper testing should be undertaken before a component is replaced. Welcome to the world of diagnostics!
