BMW X5 3.0d 2002 - Self leveling air suspension fault - Unresolved #

( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 3.0d

Hi, "Self Level Suspension is Inactive" is displayed in dash. No warning lamp comes on with ignition or is displayed together with above message as is described in the handbook.
The car has air suspension on rear only, it sits lower at the rear and when driven it rides hard.

Using Bavarian Technic and Multiscan there are NO CODES logged in Suspension System. All 3 fuses 80, 30 and 7.5A are intact and have power.
I also went into the Instrument panel and the 2 following codes were logged
189 Electronic brake force distribution
191 IKE - EEPROM error, coding incorrect or incomplete.
Could someone explain the 189 code in more detail please?
Could this be an instrument panel fault causing the "Inactive" message to come on?

Are there any common problems with these that may be relevant or should I pass this onto main dealer?

EBD is the modern way of regulating brake force between the front and rear of the vehicle.

The same thing used to be done via either a fixed pressure regulating valve or an adjustable one (load sensing valve)

Carry out a global scan and see if the story grows.

Hi Martin, I would suspect the vehicle has had a flat battery and jump start recently. This 'kicks' some of the systems into transport mode (riding low) and upsets the dash coding.
Is the remote locking working?

Recode the dash and deactivate the transport mode in the susp. (worth recoding the susp also if all else fails)

I'm pretty sure the susp should have a fault logged either way ie transport mode or a fault so I'd be suspicious of the diag tools your using.

As Mark said a global scan and clear would be benifical also.

Ps they are bad for getting water in the susp ECU in the boot also

Hi, thanks for your suggestions above. Due to the limitations of my scanners mentioned above I have decided to pass this one on to a local independant BMW specialist.
I will post the fix when sorted.
