This is a NOTE for anyone fitting a new Electric handbrake controller on the VW Passat, before removing or unplugging the controller do a full auto scan with vag-com/VCDS to collect all program codes from the other controllers, so you can re enter the code after fitting the new H/brake controller, IF YOU DO NOT when you un-plug the faulty H/brake controller the ABS unit will lose its coding and this will make the job more difficult.

And if you forget to take a log & it all goes wrong, the way to tell if the car has pulled this stunt is look into the ABS & EPB coding.

If both control units show a coding of 10000 - you're in deep lumber.

The other thing to check on is the VCDS wiki for adapting the sensors - if you don't follow in the correct sequence it can recode the EPB module incorrectly again,

Now if all dose go tits up and you see that 0010000 in the ABS soft code, you can contact Ross-Tech by Email or phone and they will help you out, fantastic support just send them a full auto scan of your car with a little info on which parts you have replaced, but don't forget they are 6hrs behind us in the UK so 2pm here is there 9am start, and you get back the soft code you need, what a great helpfull team they are.
