Year of Manufacture *: 2008 ( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 2.7 diesel
Hi
Electric hand brake failed to release whilst on holiday a garage disconnected and powered calipers to release them so he could get home and diagnosed faulty switch which he replaced himself !!! Have scanned car and got two codes 02432 supply voltage for left parking brake motor electrical problem in circuit and 02433 which is same fault for right motor.
Have checked the two 30A fuses in osr boot fuse box and the 5A one in dash fuse box there are two on battery 110a and 100a all OK. VAGCOM showing swith operating ok too. I can power probe motors to work no problem but just a bit dubious about replaceing ecu for brake without asking ukat in case i am missing something
Had roughly same problem last week with a passat 3C with the same codes after the garage opposite mine changed a calliper after checking all the wiring and connections we carried out a software update using autologic and all was o.k
We have had a similar scenario a customer brought their Passat to us after another garage diagnosed a faulty switch fitted it then removed it as it didn't cure the problem (which if I remeber was the fault light on only) we found couple of faults one with the switch and one for a caliper motor we fitted the switch (cust request as he had already bought it) cleared faults and performed a reset (I think) with AL then all ok
Here is the Passat TPI ref low voltage complaints; Technical product information Transaction No.: 2013530/7 Running gear: electric parking brake: warning light comes on after engine start Release date: 20-Jan-2011
Customer statement / workshop findings
After the engine start the yellow warning light for the electric parking brake K214 comes on.
The red warning light for the brake system K118 is also permanently on.
When pressing the button for the electro-mechanical parking brake (EPB) the yellow warning light K213 flashes.
The following entries are logged:
00446 002 - restricted function through low voltage, under lower limit
00532 002 - supply voltage under lower limit
02428 002 - left parking brake motor, tensioning force not reached-V282 under lower limit
02429 002 - right parking brake motor, tensioning force not reached-V283 under lower limit
02433 011 - left parking brake motor power supply-V282 disruption
02433 012 - left power supply-V282 electric complaint in the circuit
The EPB control units Part No.: 3C0 907 801 B and E are affected.
Technical background
Control unit responds too sensitively to low voltage complaints.
The EPB control units with part number 3C0 907 801 B and E are affected.
Production change
Electric parking brake generation 3
• From week 22/2007.
Measure
Update the software of the parking brake control unit
Update the software of the parking brake control unit J-540 according to the following table:
Old part number Software version New part number Software version Software CD Online from week*
- parking brake control unit J 540
3C0 907 801 B 0001 3C0 907 801 G 0005 from 30 50/06
3C0 907 801 E 0003 3C0 907 801 G 0005 from 30 50/06
Note:
Observe the following points.
• Connect a battery charger to the vehicle battery.
• Release the parking brake
The following points must be observed during and after the programming.
• The parking brake is updated in three stages (see table below)
• During the first stage in 2% of cases the update fails. Deal with it in the guided fault finding. Do not replace the control unit.
• If the test programme ends prematurely, restart it.
• After the successful programming the following sender must be adjusted in the specified sequence.
- Basic settings of longitudinal acceleration sender G251.
- Basic settings of brake system.
- Code control unit J-540 with AUTO-HOLD function
