Audi TT BHE 2004 - DSG gearbox, loss of drive - Fixed #

( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: Engine BHE Gearbox GYU 02E

Evening chaps,
we've just had this machine delivered on an AA truck.
Drivers fault description of "struggling to change out of first gear yesterday & wouldn't go today".

It just drove around the block fine for me, but i kept getting a rapid rattling noise from the selector lever.

Quick systems scan before I went home revealed the codes;
17145 (P0761) SHIFT SOLENOID 3 N90 (OPEN CIRCUIT / SHORT TO GROUND)
(Sporadic Fault)

18115 (P1707) FAULT IN MECHATRONIC UNIT
IMPLAUSIBLE SIGNAL
(Sporadic Fault)

18115 (P1707) FAULT IN MECHATRONIC UNIT
SHORT TO POSITIVE
(Sporadic Fault)

Has anyone known of any issues on the DSG 02E box at all, seen plenty of these, but never had an issue with one until today.

Engine code: BHE
Transmission Code; GYU

I have been reliably? informed that any sensor faults in the DSG range of gearboxes require a new mechatronics unit.

Hi Jon,

These are classic Mechatronic unit failure codes, generally speaking a new Mechatronic is the fix. However, I believe that some of the ECM repairers will also tackle these.

Hi
I wouldnt bother trying to get it fixed, last one I sent off in the post got damaged & Post office claims procedure is a night mare.
Had another sent back with a fault that wasnt there before.
I know its expensive but a new one is preferable.

thanks again for the advice.
a new mechatronic unit rolls in at £1350 + VAT.

An ECU testing unit is £250.

We advised him new only - on the basis we don't much like ECU repairers or their unusual business practices.

I'll keep you posted on the progress on this one.

Thanks for the replies chaps - fitted a new Mechatronic unit today @ the princely sum of £1300 + VAT for the part - Job done all working nicely.

If there are any KTS users out there thinking of doing one of these - the KTS failed to base set the Mechatronic unit. It didn't seem to like the fact there were faults logged in the DTC memory, even though those faults were "Base Setting not performed" & "Base Setting Mechanical Error". It used the excuse "basic setting not performed faults logged in memory"

The Autologic was used to sort it, (it was out doing a DPF regen when I wanted to use it, hence picking the KTS up to complete the job)

Hi Jon Ive got to fit a mechatronic unit to a 2006 Passat Monday. We had the old one tested by ECU testing ltd and they said the processor was damaged so unable to repair it.
I am trying to find out if there is any programing to do or is it just fit it, fill up with oil and do basic settings as listed on Ross Tech site.

Its as you have said, fit it. fill with oil, carry out software coding, Carry out basic setting & finish off with a good long road test to set the internal fuzzy logic.

No programming as such

I was getting worried we had to take it to VW to get it programmed.

Hopefully I can code it with our VCDS Vagcom lead.

I have just checked the last full scan and it lists the coding there.

Thanks for the reply.

I cant find any info on the web about these Mechatronic units.

We have just got the old unit back from the testers and we are going to put it back on the car and do a full scan and look in the coding area and copy all the details.

I rang my local VW dealer today and they said it would need programming £85.00 charge.

What do you think.
