is it possible its a fault with the heater speed control resistor. Not sure where its located but on a Primera its driver's side near heater box.

fixed removed resistor it is in heater box behind clutch pedal soldered wire across resistor. Fan worked fine thanks for help

Hi the resistor you refer to is a one way diode and normally blows when the fan motor is drawing excess current. This is normally a sign that the motor is either semi seized or damp has got to the windings, and overloads the system. It is common to find this diode blown across the top of the resistor; often people by pass it to find all fan speeds work correctly.
The correct repair is to replace the motor as well as the resistor as we have learnt in the past a new resistor can work for a couple of weeks and blows again due to the motor overloading the system. Many parts suppliers won’t replace the resistor under warranty because of this problem of not replacing the motor in tandem. This is a built in safety design to the system, bypass it at your peril there is the possibility of the wiring loom going up in smoke! John Kennard.
