I have Ford C Max coming up with steering failure on the cluster after engine start. The power steering appears to function ok according to the customer although I thought it a little stiff.
The fault in the system is for the steering angle sensor, open circuit, short to ground.
I spoke to Ford parts and they were no real help and couldn't tell me the location of the sensor. i myself think its part of the airbag squib at the back of the steering wheel but not 100%.
It has 6 wires on it, 2 for the horn contact, 2 for the airbag, and i'm thinking the other 2 for the SAS. I'm not too sure as the sensors i've done before have had a power and ground connection to them also.
Anyone shed any light on the location, or had any experience with this fault?

Not totally sure about C-max,but a standard focus with electric/hydraulic pas has the angle sensor in the steering rack turret.Access from engine bay.The last one I looked at flagged angle sensor fault but there was no power supply to it.Further tests showed this sensor +feed from the power steering pump.New pump fixed this.hth

Thanks Andy, I checked for a supply voltage on the sensor but nothing, so I am thinking along the lines of the control unit fault.
