Toyota Avensis 2.2D D4D 2006 - Is there any known engine problems? #

( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 2.2

Customer goes to dealer for ESP problem now having £5500 engine repairs?

This has me confused, a customer had ABS/ESP fault that I could not get to so he went to the dealer,while there they told him he needs major engine overhaul work,pistons etc.

The dealer is doing this under warranty but myself and customer cannot understand why this work was necessary, is anyone aware of a recall for this vehicle?

We had a similar vehicle in with a egr fault. So i spoke to toyota tech and he said if they see a egr fault logged they can do a warranty claim on the engine. Does need some service history. We told the owner but haven't heard the outcome

Thanks Ian, seems to be something we don't know about regarding these engines, will post back when my customer picks his car up, told him what questions to ask !

Hi Tony,

Every time I call into my local Toyota dealers workshop they seem to have one of these engines out.

They used to fit replacement pistons, but they have now progressed to short engines. .

ESP light will come on for all sorts of engine faults on these and Lexus, haven't got a clue why, had a LS220 just the other week with a DPF fault, (well known, and there are modified parts for them) and the ESP light was on!

Thinking about it I suppose if there is a control fault on the engine then the ESP could be disabled due to the ECU not being able to control engine out put accurately enough and the light is just to tell the driver that the ESP is off.

Torque control, ie the ESP requires a calculated torque input from the engine ECU.
