Hi guys this is my own vehicle which has issues and as im running out of ideas i thought id throw it at everyone.
I have a transit mk3 1988 camper. its a petrol and i had a brainstorm and fitted a 2.0 pintio with efi from a grananda to increase power and economy, well it does both those things except when in traffic it cuts out when the engine gets hot.
I fitted an aluminium swirl pot as there was no return to the original tank.
when the engine gets warm ie above normal it backfires and generally runs rough eventually cutting out, if you can keep it revved it will continue to run and once on the move settles down usually depends on the weather.
i fitted our fuel pressure gauge to it last week and when she stopped i had lost fuel pressure and there was lots of air coming out of the flow valve when i pressed it, at this point the original mechanical fuel pump was supplying the swirl and also it was in the engine bay and felt very hot so i thought fuel vaporisation? so i repositioned the swirl under the van and fitted a facet pump to supply the swirl but its still the same! now the return goes to the swirl pot as per its instructions as the tank has no return port. should i fit a diesel tank unit and return the fuel to the tank? swirl is very hot when it cuts out i have tried the fuel pump relay i will when i get a chance see if i have good current supply to the pump which is a new pump incidentally fitted last year to try and sort this out, otherwise it runs fine.
any thoughts just in case the obvious eludes me or someone has experience with similar installations.
Juat for those who read this fitting a return to the tank has solved the problem had a brainstorm and ran a pipe to the filler neck from the swirl pot and its fine, so just need to work out how to fit a return to the tank, prob fit a diesel sender or perhaps complete used tank.
