Fiat Stilo 1.9 TD 2003 - Replacing rear axle beam front bushes #

Hi

I have this vehicle coming in next week to replace the rear axle or beam front bushes, its a estate model the bushes look a bit of a nightmare, any one done them before does the beam have to come out or can be done in situ

We have had these bushes to change & they are a real pain to do. Our local Fiat dealer told us there is no tool for them they only fit new axle beams. We made a tool for doing them but still broke no end of studding pulling them in!
If it's your first set then allow a long time.

I did one before , no easy way to do it .I ended up dropping the axle ,used my small press to remove bushes .I wouldn't do them again .Allow 4 hours , a sweat bucket and a can of beer

I totally agree with John, drop the axle (not too difficult) then I used oxy/acetylene welding torch to burn out the old rubber and to cave in the outer case, (someone will probably tell me I shouldn't do this!) then pulled the new bushes in with a lenght of m12 threaded bar, (high tensile if you can get it). Check the voids are at the top and bottom! The first side I did was easy but the second wouldn't go the last 4mm so ended up man handling the axle to the press. Hope this helps. Alan
