Peugeot 307 SW 2.0 HDi 2003 - Suspension noise #

( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 2.0 Hdi

This is my own car and it's driving me nuts! If you drive over a small bump - like those painted on rumble strips - there is a rattly knock from the front suspension. I'm inclined to think it's a bit worse on a slight left hand lock.

You'd put money on it being anti-roll bar related but it's had new drop links and the bushes and clamps are in good condition. In the past 12 months it's had new springs and struts and new inner and outer track rod ends. All were slightly worn (120k) but this noise has persisted throughout.

The swivels and wishbone mounts look fine.

The really annoying thing is that I can't replicate in the workshop. I'm now leaning towards steering rack but I honestly can't see or feel anything wrong with it and they're not exactly easy to do.

Anyone.....?

I view of all the parts changed already i would change the wisbones.
I had a Audi TT this week whith a similar noise, no visible play in the wishbones but from past experiance of the noise i replaced the wishbones, job done.

Hi Richard,
Does this motor have oil filled engine/transmission mountings ? If so, has the oil leaked out ?

I have had a couple of cars with suspension noise, turned out to be anti-roll bar clamp bushes, even though they looked in good condition. As it is your own car, try a road test with a drop link disconnected.

I agree with Mark. I recently had a car that did this and eventually I managed to replicate it on the ramp with a lever bar on the anti-roll bar in a certain position. It really did sound like a knock rather than a squeak.

I'm quite interested in Keith's post about lower arm joints. Was this from experience? They're rubber encased ball-joints and a pig to check.

Little while since i've seen a 307 but aren't the inner wishbone bushes a rose joint, simular to the rears bushes on the vectra b's? I remember doing them on peugeot cause they were knocking but i can't remember what model it was.
