Citroen Berlingo 1.9 2001 - Hazards come on with ignition - Fixed #

I bought this old Berlingo for running about locally here in France. It has developed the annoying habit of switching on the hazard warning lights when the ignition is switched on. Even when the switch is disconnected it still happens. It seems that the BSI gets a command from somewhere, but before I start taking the wiring apart, I was wondering if someone has come across this before?

Thanks for your reply.

No, I have scanned with Lexia and no codes present. All I can see that the BSI gets a hazard warning light command as soon as I switch on the ignition. I can then switch them off with the hazard warning light switch.
Just a bit strange and annoying....

I have serviced a fleet of these vans over the years, And found if you brake rather hard, (say as in emergency) This automatically brings on the Hazard Lights, What sets this off, i don`t know, But whatever it is. it maybe faulty. Don`t know if this is of any help. Regards John

That is just one of the programmable features in the BSI configuration John. ( Hazard warings under emergency braking )

Where it gets the signal from to do this, I am not sure but I would think it is from the SRS Controller. ?? I suppose thats Andy's theory about the SRS fault codes. ?

Alarm issues?
ABS fitted? Probably not, but I wonder if this is where hazard warning comes from on emergency stop.

Beware, Can gateway lives in the indicator assembly as does the hazard unit, I remember the indicator assembly used to be stupid money £400 or so.

I had a customer knock the stalk off with a pair of steps he was quoted £800 at dealers !!!

I have had a couple of these berlingo's where the inertia switch has been tripped by a coil spring breaking, as well as stopping the engine from running it also brings on the hazards,

Thanks guys, for all your repsonses. I re-configured the BSI, and before starting on the wiring, I had a good look around the vehicle to make sure it would go through the Control Technique (French MOT). Because I hadn't seen a emergency cut off switch, i had assumed it didn't have one. But I found it dangling next to the exhaust. One click and the hazards stopped. Imobiliser is already bypassed on this old jalopy, so that should hopefully be it :-)
