Vauxhall Zafira 1.8 2001 - Trouble selecting gears #

Hi

Having trouble selecting gears. when changing from park to any of the rest may not engage. All lights on gear stick housing light up toghether when problem is there. Lot of play on ball at end of cable at top of gearbox but still seems to click into respective gears. Wonder if problem is inside unit cable meets at top of box which has electric block attached?

Have you code read the gearbox? and checked the live data !

kevin.i tried to read it on my texa axone 2000 diagnostic unit and it will not read zafira 1 automatic.there is a lot of play on ball on cable on top of box but it seems to click into gears even with this play.i may need to get it read at main dealer.very few automatics in ireland so mechanics in main dealerships tend to have little experience of working on them.
