Number plates #

Anyone make number plates, who would be prepared to post a set to me?

I have a UK registered car in Spain, justcollected it and drove it over. Only today noticed the plates are one digit wrong. I would be surprised if I could find UK plates anywhere here. I have the registration document (V5C).

Actually, no need, I just discovered you can buy them on ebay. I would have thought the sale of plates would have been regulated in the UK.

Which company, the one on ebay? I have no idea. does it matter?

Hi Alan,

You are correct....the sale of number plates is supposed to be regulated. Anyone who makes or sells number plates have to be registered with the DVLA and are required to see suitable documentation from the owner (driving licence, V5, etc) before selling them.

I guess not everyone is following these rules if you've found a mail order company to supply them.

The reason i asked if they where channel isle compnany is, mainland UK ones must have the makers name and postcode on them.
Had a few where they customer got some from the channel isle with no post code so an MOT failure.

Hi Kev,

I never knew about the postcode plate failure,just rang my tester and he says it is no longer applicable in that it is no longer in the oline testers manual?

After a bit of searching, Jock from TV's "the garage" does UK plates and is close enough to me. He asked for passport and V5 before he would make them. He also put his name and postcode on them. A snip @ €50

But I suppose if he's fitting them and giving the car a full valet, not bad value

Hi all.
No postcode is not an MOT failure.

See section 6.3

Although I am a registered number plate supplier I dont make my own plates, so my supplier puts MY postcode on plates supplied to me and only requires my registration (licence) number for their records. Although a postcode is not an MOT requirement I believe that it is a requirement when supplying plates. Inspite of this I have on many occasions seen people selling number plates at large shows (Dorset steam fair etc) without asking for the correct documentation.
