Rover 25 2005 - Rear fog lamps inoperative #

Hi Guys,

Can anyone give me any info on the wiring of the rear fog lamps on this car? According to AD the fog lamp switch grounds out the multifunction unit, that then supplies a feed to the warning lamp and rear lamps. but strangely the front fogs work through a relay. Are these multifunction units troublesome and if needed to be changed any special procedures/sofware required?

Hi the multi function module on the 05 rover is quite troublesome as the plugs on the harness and the socket on the mfu suffer with moisture as for access its behind the heater ducting behind the glove box. if you are unlucky enough to have air con it will need degassing to get access.
i don't know about recoding it sure it will do as its also tied with locking/remotes.
there are people who say they can repair them but you need to check the company out as some are no good at what they claim to be able to do.
you need a wiring diagram to confirm the rear fog feed from the fuse box ground and the ground signal from the switch I'm sure if you need a diagram i have one just let me know

Cheer's Martin,

The red green wire (Terminal 1 on the switch) that goes to the multifunction unit from the fog lamp switch is at battery voltage and pressing the fog lamp switch ground this wire, no feed is present on the warning lamp feed at any time, the black ground wire is grounded Ok, and by suppling a feed to the warning lamp circuit the fog lamps come on so proving that circuit, all fuses are OK. Autodata doesn't have a wiring diagram for this vehicle so I'm, not sure if I'm missing something.

Hi mark,
I'm sure you've checked but just in case you forgot...Does the car have a tow bar? if so it may have a rear fog cutout on the socket.

hi there your tests you have done at the switch are correct there are 2 types of mfu one on the back of the fuse box and the other is as described in earlyer posting.

If the unit is faulty and you have click type switches in the past i have externally wired in a relay for the fog lights, but if you have soft touch switches then unfortunately you can't do this and will either need to repair or replace the unit.
If you replace the unit it will need to be programmed to both the car and the engine ecu and you will need the bar codes for the remotes if you have no bar codes new remotes will be rquired making it an expensive repair.

Thanks to everyone for the info, it has soft type switches and just to repair the rear fog lamps is not worth the expense of going down the MFU route. We just hard wired a switch into the original circuit which still utilizes his fog lamp tell tale on the instrument cluster.
