Ford Mondeo 2001 - Central locking, boot lock only operates by fob #

As above.
Central locking only operated by key fob button. same with boot lock.
Central locking does not work by pushing lock buttons in car or by using key on external locks.
Internal boot latch button also inopertive but key fob button does open boot.
All these functions seem to be controlled by an MFU. the MFU seems to be capable of driving the locks but is not responding to the door switches or internal boot lock switch. It is not clear from the wiring diagram where the fob and switch functions separate (IYSWIM) but the external wiring to the MFU seems very simple.
Is this likly to be a dud MFU (In which case the owner can live without it) or are there any other "Known Issues" concerning this.
Re: Mondeo-central locking/boot lock only operate by Fob.
This could be a case of both front door latches faulty. The motors are ok but have lost the switching.I have had 2 mondeos of about this age and both have suffered latch problems.I have never changed a gems unit(mfu). One other thing to check is the micro switch behind the boot open paddle rubber. These can stick on and can confuse the system.hth
