Jaguar S Type 2.5 V6 2003 - Rear brake pads need changing #

Year of Manufacture *: 2003
( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 2.5 V6

Got one of these in with EPB and rear pads need changing. I understand we will need a reset tool. I have had a Google and found one guy suggesting that if battery is disconnected prior and reconnected after- the ECU will re-configure the position sensor at the first brake application.
Can anyone shed any light please?

Hi Harry, its an expensive gamble, might work sometimes or might ruin the park brake module in one foul swoop.
Plus the other issues with battery disconnect, fuel trim resets, adaptions etc

Not worth the gamble in my opinion

Not sure about that, doesnt using the scan tool returns the cable bridge to the "fit the new pads position" i carnt see how removing the battery would allow for this ??
Dont risk it , it will be on your head if something does go wrong

Thanks for the advise.
I have been trying to find a manufacturer of a suitable reset tool and can find none for the Jag. Anybody able ton point me in the right direction?

Hi Harry
there is a piece in the recent "ORIGINAL" magazine for OE parts customers landrover/jaguar etc on how to re-calibrate but its basically as follows

1 Reset EPB module
a) switch off ign
b) disconnect battery for 30s
c) reconnect battery

2 Start the engine
3 Firmly apply and release the footbrake 5 times
4 Confirm the message "NOT CALIBRATED" or "APPLY FOOT AND PARK BRAKE" is displayed on message centre parking brake is now in calibration mode
5 Lightly press footbrake pedal
6 Apply the parkingbrake by using EPB switch
7 Release the parking brake
8 Release Footbrake
9 Check message has cleared and warning light not illuminated
10 Apply and release EPB 5 times to check no errors

However we did rear pads and discs on an S type last week and i didnt disconnect battery all i did was ensure cables were sufficiently slack with handbrake off and both caliper levers were fully back, fitted pads as normal then carefully pumped out pistons and applied EPB switch a few times, then a road test to bed in, checked brakes on rolling road all ok and rechecked resting positions of caliper levers and cables and were fully releasing ok

i didnt fancy disconnecting battery unless it was essential as likely introduce other faults etc
