Fiat Grande Punto 1.9 2006 - Alternator problems #

Hi everyone I am having a problem with a mutijet punto with loss of charging.The customer came out to his car and the battery was flat last month i went out started it with a jumper pack but the battery wasnt charging I took the alternator off and had it tested and was told the diodes had failed. after the new diodes car ran for 1 month with no problems until the day before yesterday when the same happend flat battery again .I jumped it but battery wasnt charging i put a new battery and alternator on at the same time and the car was charging so i gave the customer it back. Its now on its way back on a truck with a flat battery after one night. To cut a long story short does anyone know of a problem with these alternators or can someone give me some advise on what could be damaging them.
going in today to take a look at it just looking for ideas for now. might just be a faulty new part?

Hi Dave,
Did you carry out a parasitic drain test when you fitted the new parts?

If not it would be one of my first tests now. HTH

hi Mark yes I have a 240ma drain but didnt think that was enough to drain over night Thanks for the reply

seen the car now. I charged the battery started it and its charging 14.6 volts across the battery and 80amp output. have a fault code for alternator d+ and the alternator does not ground this wire with key on or running it stays at battery voltage. battery light comes on every once in a while but only on start up. I have 80mv drop on my live and 70mv drop on my earths engine runnning.
code cant be erased with key on with new alternator fitted but refit the old one and code can be erased but no charge.
Have a new alternator coming tomorrow so hope its that

where did you get the alternator from? I remember have similar problem with astra-h 2006 .Alternator from suppliers-the same problem. Fitted genuine one -everything ok.

Quick update I had both alternators tested and both where faulty looked like the new one had a problem in the regulator and the first one looked like it had overworked. I am hoping the first one was killed by the jumpstart/high load that followed with a faulty battery. customer is away with a repaired alternator and new battery. It now shuts down to 120ma drain lets hope its ok now.

I'm not sure what equipt you are using to check for a drain,but 120ma is too much.I would be looking for around 50-60ma.As a rough guide,your target drain should be the battery capacity in AH multiplied by 0.6.So a 60ah battery should be around 40ma.

Thanks Andy looks like I still have a drain then I used a pico with a low amp clamp. might need to get the car back to see what it is maybe thats causing the overworking of the alternator.
Thanks for showing me the guide I am 3 times over 40ma
