Volvo S80 2.9D 2003 - Engine check light on #

Year of Manufacture *: 2003
( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 2.9 diesel engine code b6294s2

vehicle has come in with engine check light on and display saying brake failure
fault code read vehicle with follwing results
CEM has faulty communication
TCM signal missing
ECM signal missing
but ECU, TCM, BCM and SAS all show no communications
rev counter does not always work
and sometimes engine will not start
checked can bus signal at obdII connector and cannot get anything on pin 6 or 14
i presume i am dealing with a network problem
any guidance would be appreciated

On pre 2005 Volvo's the CAN bus is only routed to the diagnostic connector (6 & 14 High Speed, 3 & 11 Low Speed CAN) once the CAN gateway in the CEM has been told to close the diagnostic relay via an ISO command sent down the K line on pin 7. This is all done but by the diagnostic tester that you plug in.

I guess you will need to get into the CAN network on the other side of the CEM. Perhaps someone else has had more experience of these problems on this car.

was this fixed if so what was found, thanks, i know this may test the memory banks!
