BMW 318i 1999 - ABS pump fault Archived Message

    Hi All,
Had an ABS fault on the above vehicle, code indicated a pump fault. Checked pump - no fault found.

To cut a long story short I condemned the ECU and sent the pump/ECU/modulator unit off to BBA for testing/repair. They confirmed the fault, carried out repair and sent it back. (Not without a certain amount of grief from Amtrak but less said the better!)

Fitted the unit back on the car today and power bled the system as recommended. Refitted battery tray etc., started engine but the ABS lamp stayed on. Old pump fault code still in memory which I cleared with no problem. The kick in the n*ts is that now I have 2 new codes that are permanent faults:

    81 Right hand inlet valve.

    82 Left hand inlet valve.

I then noticed component activation on my Autodignos machine that allows the bleeding of the fluid circuits of the modulator. Carried out procedure but still no result. (I expected to feel or hear something happening during this but nothing apparent).

Am I missing something obvious or have I now got a problem with 2 sticky inlet valves, in which case I'll have to remove the unit (AGAIN!!!!) and send it back to BBA for further investigation.

Bet you lot are glad I cut that story short!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Regards,

    Ian.

PS. This is the Teves MK20 system that is fitted to the later E46 (changeover I guess).
