If the ignition is left on for any length of time the coils overheat then burn out. I had an issue last year when I diagnosed failed coils on a '96 model. Coils replaced but same thing happened a short time later. Interrogated customer who remembered both failures occurred after she had been parked in her car with the ignition on talking to her partner on the phone. Mazda replaced the coils under warranty.
