Ford Ka 1.3 1999 - Over heating problem Archived Message

    Hi All

    Ford Ka 1.3
    1999
    14,500 miles

This car came in a few weeks back with an over heating problem. Customer says the cooling fan is not cutting in and heater blowing cold. Customer had wired cooling fan to battery so it was on all the time . Customer had also replaced the thermostat and ECT sensor. The car boils before the fan cuts in

I replaced the heater valve and that cured the heater problem, then put the cooling fan wiring back as it should be. Checked live data as it warmed up and the cooling fan cut in at 102 deg, but by this time the coolant was up to the cap and pushing past

Carried out a block leakage test and the fluid started to turn yellow after about 30 seconds before it boiled over. I advised that it was probably a leaking head gasket

The customer took the car as her father was in the trade a few years ago and he was going to do the head gasket. Got a call this morning from her father, he has changed the head gasket, but it is still doing the same thing. He did not have the head skimmed

Has anyone had a problem with this engine at such a low mileage, all the signs pointed to leaky head gasket, but i would personaly of had the head skimmed. I know its a pretty basic engine and they dont usually cause any problems at this mileage, but maybe Ford may of had a dodgy batch of heads or blocks?

    Many tanks

    Peter
