Thanks for the input lads, yes I think you are right, the Frontera wiring diag might well help with this and I think it could well be an eng harness rubbed through. Two things about this vehicle are, I put a cam belt on and I had to tighten the alternator belt (maybe I disturbed a dodgy wire) I also had some problems with the rear lights (bad earths so ran extra new ones)I don't think this has any relevance to the problem but I suppose It shows the general condition of things.
