Hi Peter I had a Volvo 340 with a similar problem some time ago and I considered doing a repair on the pushrod seal, which was the cause of the leak. In the end we fitted a 2nd hand servo, which was probably cheaper than a repair. It was quite a simple job to replace on the Volvo but I don't have any idea of the size of the job on your '92 Passat.
