Your A3 will be fitted with Teeves Mk20, the ECU is integral with the modulator block. The pump is a seperate 2 pin plug on the side, you can remove this plug and apply a 12v supply to test the motor. If the motor runs OK, and you still have a pump motor fault, you have an ECU problem (quite common). The ECU can be removed without disturbing the modulator block.
