Hi Les, if your "beef" is with the garage that passed it then I would suggest you contact VOSA.
I was just explaining that this vehicle is fitted with a direct injection fuel system and therefore the tail pipe readings may not be as you expect them to be. (as covered in the emission book) When the vehicle is operating in stratified mode the Lambda readings can be in the range that you experienced.
I am an MOT tester and as far as I know the sequence for testing the emissions is as follows;
1) Carry out BET test and if it fails go to step two.
2) Find an exact match in the data base and re-test. If no match found move to step three.
3) Look in the emissions book for the vehicle and test to the specs laid out in the book.
I may be wrong as this type of problem does not occur often.
