Ford Ranger 2.5 TD 2004 - Fuel pump timing procedure # Archived Message

    Hi All.

I have been given the task of re-building this engine after it was stripped by what seems to have been a partially trained shaved monkey!

All the balance shafts and idler gears have timing marks but the pump pulley has nothing but sme grey paint that seemed to indicate the correct position.

I've built the engine up and had it running but it's got a bad diesel knock and it runs like a pig!

The fuel pump mounting bolt holes are slotted but the pump can only be moved in one direction and that just makes the engine not start at all.

Is there a timing pin/hole that I've missed? Will I have to strip off the timing gear cover again?

    Thanks in advance.

    Paul.
