Ford Mondeo1.8 Petrol 2004 - Cooling fans run continuously once up to temperature #Archived Message

Car came to garage with complaint that once the cooling fans had cut in, they would run continuously until the ignition was switched off. The garage spoke to the local dealership, and was told that it was probably the electronic thermostat that was causing the problem. They ordered a replacement and fitted it, but the electrical connector on the old thermostat had no plug connected, they unwrapped the wiring loom to find the wires that Ford tech said should have been connected to the thermostat in the loom with original blanking caps fitted. The car has never overheated and no fault codes are stored.
Can anyone through any light on this problem please
