Ford Transit 2.0 TDDi 2002 - Auxiliary drive belt noise / fault # Archived Message

    Hi Lads,
this job is really bugging me.The vehicle came in with a complaint of oil leak and engine noise. Initial inspection revealed and oil leak from timing chain cover, the cover was removed and whilst being stripped down I noticed abnormal wear to the forward edge of the aux drive belt as well as excessive play/noise in both tensioner pulley and viscus fan drive and the pulley behind viscus fan drive. With the timing cover removed it was obvious that the oil leak was due to a broken chain guide that had rubbed through the cover. Timing chain and guides were replaced along with a new cover and pulleys that were worn along with a new aux belt(all gen Ford parts) On initial start up all was well, however on subsequent start ups there was a loud noise from the belt tensioner and the Aux belt appears to move forward on the bottom pulley. I made inquiries to Ford and they said there is an issue with the bottom pulleys, so a new one was fitted and made no difference. I also fitted a s/hand alternator which made no difference.Has anyone seen anything like this? The customer has confirmed that the noise that it has now, is the same noise that he complained about initially.

    Thanks Andy E
