Nissan Micra - (General) Pollen filter instalation quiry # Archived Message

Couple of times I have come across these where there is clearly a removable cover in the airbox that could be removed to install a pollen filter, but for the fact that the plastic dashboard is in the way

(And I don't mean just a bit of it. You would have to remove the entire thing to gain sufficient access to install/replace a pollen filter)

However, the section of the offending dashboard immediately in front of the air-box has a series of "Perforations" which are inviting a sort of "Cut Here" action.

Now, I haven't actually hacked away at anybodies dashboard in this way (yet) but is this what is being suggested??

Or is this some sort of "IBM Printer upgrade" sort of thing where the basic model doesn't have a pollen filter (because access is denied) but for a suitable fee, the cars can be "Upgraded" to have a pollen filer by the dealer cutting away the bit of obstructing dashboard so that a filter can actually be installed in the airbox that is already capable of having one fitted??
