    Hi Colin,

On my '99 'V' reg Fiesta Ghia (last of that shape before the face lift) the alarm system & locking is all integrated in the General Electric Module (GEM) which sits behind/part of the fuse box in the cubby hole on the driver's side of the dash. Fairly easy to remove.

Had a problem on mine where it lost the flashing of the indicator on one side only when arming the alarm. Turned out to be a faulty relay inside the Siemens made ECU. Managed to locate one and solder it back in.

I think if you change the unit you may have to configure the odd item (fog lamps, etc) but may probably work out of the box. I would double check everything else first, think a new GEM was around the £100 mark when I priced one up a few years ago.

Might be worth testing any activations that may be supported on this unit by your diagnostic tool.

P.S. If you do have a GEM module rather than the separate alarm module, as far as I know they do not have the self test mode.
