Mercedes A160 Automatic Clutch Control unit motor brushes supplier Archived Message

Hi, I thought I would share this surprise supplier with others as I feel sure they will be of use to some of you.
I had Merc A160 in with suspected clutch failure. It has a 5 speed manual gearbox with the Automatic Clutch System (no clutch pedal).
The electro-hydraulic unit is behind the front n/s wing and a sharp tap on the casing and it sprang into life, new unit is £748 + vat, customer faints!
I removed the motor casing to reveal wornout brushes. Popped round to my local auto electrical guy to see if he recognised them and he pointed me in the direction of the building opposite - Engineering Carbon Products.
I went in with the motor unit at 11.30am, they took some measurements etc. and said pop back around 3pm and they will be ready!
They actually made identical brushes of the same carbon spec. as etched on the end of the old brushes for £8.77+vat each.

It turns out that they can make any carbon brush and normally same day.
The auto electrician had stripped a Citroen C3 power steering column motor to find it needed brushes as well - £1400 for new unit.

If you go to the order form page there is a very easy method of ordering replacement brushes.

    Cheers, Martin.

P.S. The Merc now changes gear perfectly!
