Vauxhall Vectra Z19DTH 2007 - WARNING - Early timing belt failure # Archived Message

Posted by Steve Nicholas on September 24, 2009, 7:43 pm

My colleague had this car in today as a non-runner. A quick check revealed timing belt failure due to a melted guide roller - or so we thought.

The water pump had seized and as the back of the belt runs over over the pump pulley we deduce that the heat generated in the belt was transfered to the plastic guide pulley and melted it!

The water pump bearing must be quite small and may be unable to take the load for the full interval of 100,000 miles between belt changes (Autodata).

This car has done just over 50,000 miles.

A routine service check (or change) of the water pump etc. may be highly advisable.

I have not checked to see if this has been raised in the archives as I wanted to get this posted as soon as possible and hopefully save some of you and your customeers some very expensive grief.

    Regards,

    Steve
