Has the vehicle been driven with the missfire for long? These used to suffer from bore wash. Often taking the engine apart would reveal nothing at all but leaving oil in the bores overnight before reassenbly would cure the miss completely. I would try a bit of oil down the plug holes first before stripping. Cylinder 1 is always flywheel end as previously stated. Worthy of note is that these engines never idle perfectly anyway, just so you dont go chasing that last little bit of intermittant engine shake. (Ex Renault technical expert)
