    Les, if you are running a (nominal) 1.5 ohm coil, you need a 1.5 ohm ballast resistor in line, and the current flow will be 4 amps. Without the ballast resistor, the flow will be 8 amps, overheating the coil and rapidly burning out the points. The kv's being upside down on your 'scope says the coil is wired back to front. With the coil correctly wired, and the points closed, if there is a ballast resistor in the system, you should have 6v at the coil feed, KOEO; points open, 12v. If there is no ballast resistor in the system, you need a 3 ohm coil. Some cars had the ballast resistor built into the harness, so it is not always obvious,
