    Mitsubishi L200 2.5 TD 2002 - Low oil pressure # Archived Message

    Hi all.

    Got headache job (again!).

Got this vehicle in with the sump already removed due to big end failiure on no 3. The customer's instructions were to remove the crankshaft and replace it, with new bearings, after being re-faced.

We found the con rod was damaged too so the head had to come off to remove no 3 piston.

We've built it back up with a used oil pump (supplied by the owner) and got it fired up but the oil pressure dropped to around 5psi at idle (measured with my workshop guage) and only around 20psi at fast idle. at this point the engine began to 'hunt' and the workshop filled up with what seemed to be white diesel smoke.

We've now fitted a new oil pump which seems to have improved the pressure situation somewhat but it still struggles to reach 40psi and the idle pressure still seems too low. It took a lot of cranking to get any oil pressure before starting the engine. We still get quite a lot of white smoke when the engine is revved.

I would've expected up to 45psi at idle with the engine/oil stone cold. There also seems to be a lot of crankcase vapour coming out of the tube which fits into the induction pipe. I don't know if that's connected to the fault or even if it's normal.

Question the first - Does anyone know what the nominal oil pressure on these?

Secondly - Does anyone know of an oil pressure issue on these that I might've missed?

I think I've checked all the angles but I've been wrong before!!

    All suggestions gratefully recieved!

    Cheers guys.

    Paul.
