Hi Will, is it common rail or FIP? Do you have the gauges to measure comoon rail low and high pressure readings, and do you have te bottles and pipes to do back leakage? If the injectors are leaking, which is very common, the pressure will struggle to reach the required minimum pressure, common rail i mean. The shut off valve is also very common, it sticks which stops the air, used to give immediate shut down when ignition is turned off. It is easy to check and a good clean notmally stops it. The EGR normally produces loads of black smoke on these, will operate at cruise ok but give poor starting when cold and bad idle. Hope this is of help to you. James
