This car was in for service today and on fitting the new oil filter element I noticed that it did not fit to the bottom of the housing but merely sat on some plastic teeth.
The result of this is that the filter is not closed off so it raised the questions:-
1. Why fit a filter at all as the oil can bypass it?
2. Had I lost a part when removing the old one? Answer - NO
3. Was there a part missing or was it the wrong filter?
As I had obtained the filter from a Skoda dealer I trekked back there with all the parts to question it. After a while the parts person returned and stated that the techs said that they're all like that so no problem.
I thought I would now turn to the blokes I can trust and ask you if you could have a good look at the filter when you next service one of these please?
Is there a sealing ring fitted to the bottom of the filter bowl normally or is the correct filter element blanked-off at the bottom?
