BMW 5 Series E39 1998 - ABS lamp on, codes 112, 33 front left wheel sensor faulty signal # Archived Message

    Hi,

Have an issue with this BM, two fault codes logged
112 CAN Communication fault with IC (Instrument cluster)
33 Front left wheel speed sensor faulty signal.
Checked the n/s/f sensor and sure enough it was open circuit. Replaced sensor was then able to erase fault codes and light went out. Leave car ticking over for thirty minutes and light comes back on with the same fault codes, I felt that the ABS modulator was right alongside the exhaust manifold and was getting to hot, So I left the car to cool right off overnight placed a piece of sheet steel between the manifold and the ABS unit, left the bonnet open and let the engine tick over for an hour and the warning light stayed off. We then made a shield out of some aluminum and ever thing was OK until we closed the bonnet, does anybody know if these units get heat sensitive?
